Recalled Products Pose Risk of Personal Injury

Nearly every week products are recalled for posing a threat to consumers. These products can range from food to toys to cars, and the problems associated with them can be just as wide-ranging. When these dangerous products cause injuries, the group of consumers who have been hurt may be able to band together and file a class action product liability lawsuit against the product's manufacturer and/or designer.

Winning a product liability lawsuit is often dependent upon showing a defect in the product's design or manufacturing. Often, such defects are easily identifiable when a product is recalled. Recently, three major products underwent such a recall, and Texas residents should take note.

IKEA has recalled a wall-mounted children's lamp after a baby nearly strangled to death after becoming entangled in the lamp's electrical cord. The official reason for the recall is the electrical cord hangs too low from the wall-mounted lamp, posing a strangulation hazard. Also, the Vibe USB Mobile Power Bar, a USB portable charger, has been recalled after several reports have indicated the product poses a fire hazard. A GE humidifier has also been recalled due to a defective compressor that poses a fire hazard. Consumers who own these products should immediately return them to eliminate their risk of harm.

Those who have suffered a product injury should consider speaking with an attorney who will represent their best interests. A lawyer will fight to show the product in question, when used as intended, caused the victim's injuries. If successful, compensation may be awarded to the victim for his or her personal injury, meaning medical expenses may be paid and lost wages may be recouped.

Designing and manufacturing a product brings with it a duty to ensure it is designed and made in a way that keeps consumers safe. When that duty is breached, those who failed consumers should be held accountable, and an attorney can help victims do so.
