Dangerous Bean Bags Recalled; Texas Boy Killed

When a product injury occurs, victims may be able to utilize resources available through product liability law. Recently, 2.2 million Ace Bayou Corporation bean bag chairs were recalled by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. The chairs were sold prior to July 2013 and cost between $30 and $100. The bean bags were sold in a variety of stores, including Walmart, Wayfair, Meijer, Bon-Ton, and School Specialty. They were also sold online through Amazon.com and the websites of Walmart and Meijer. The recalled bean bags came in a variety of different colors, shapes, fabrics, and sizes.

According to the CPSC, individuals who have a bean bag in their homes should check for a zipper on the bean bag and if it has a zipper, remove it from children; free repairs kits that make it possible to prevent the zipper from functioning, so that the bean bags cannot be opened, are available through Ace Bayou Corporation.

A Texas family from a community thirty minutes north of Dallas tragically lost their thirteen-year-old son to a bean bag-related accident. The boy unzipped the bean bag, crawled into it, and became unable to get out; as a result, the boy suffocated. Products liability laws exist to protect those injured by defective products or dangerous products. Defective and dangerous products cause thousands of injuries in the United States each year. Deaths may also result from defective or dangerous products. In both circumstances, remedies may be available for those harmed through a personal injury or wrongful death claim.

Victims of product injury may be able to recover compensation for monetary damages, including medical expenses, funeral costs, and lost wages, as well as damages for pain and suffering. Victims of a defective product injury may experience a variety of physical, financial, and emotional challenges during the recovery and healing process. Families of people killed due to defective products will face challenges as well. Texas attorneys with experience in product liability can help the injured or their families to understand their rights.
