Two crewmembers and eight passengers died Sunday morning in an airplane accident in Texas. According to eyewitnesses, the small airplane took off from the runway and near-immediately veered sharply left. It crashed into a private hangar and caught fire, resulting in the deaths of all 10 people aboard the plane.
Authorities have released the identities of a few of the decedents:
- Ornella Ellard
- Brian Ellard
- Alice Maritato
- Dylan Maritato
- Matt “MJ” Palmer
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) sent investigators to the crash site after fire crews deemed the area safe. The exact cause of the crash is not yet known at this time. Pilot error and engine failure are the two leading theories.
The NTSB has promised to look deeply into the histories and experiences of both deceased members of the flight crew for any possible evidence of negligence. There will also need to be an investigation of the plane itself to check for defects, maintenance records, and more.
